Dear Parents / Carers,

This week is EPIC Week! During this week the children will be trying lots of different activities every afternoon. These include climbing on a bouncy castle, making stick people, programming robots, craft and cooking. Reception will be joining Year One teachers and children and rotating throughout the week. Children need to wear PE kit to school all week, NO Uniform please.  This does not need to be school PE kit, just comfy clothes and trainers. Please ensure your children have a hat and a water bottle.

Swimming will be as normal.

We will also be recapping some of our most recent sounds, ‘oa’, ‘ur’, ‘or’, ‘ay’. In Numeracy we will be looking at place value.

Thank you for all your support,

Reception Teachers

Dear Parents / Carers,

A short week this week means no new phonic sounds. We will be talking lots about Liberation Day and writing about our extended weekend. We hope you all have fun.

We will be having PE on Thursday so remember to pack shorts (we still hope for sunny weather!) a water bottle and a hat.

We have three confirmed cases of Scarlet Fever in reception at the moment. Please look out for temperature, sore throat and a rash on the body.  Antibiotics are required so please pop to the doctors if you have any concerns.

Happy Liberation Day long weekend!

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back, we hope you had a very restful and enjoyable half term!

This week we will be continuing to apply our phonics knowledge by reading and writing CVC words as well as being very speedy high frequency word writers. In our Number we will be writing number sentences and jumping backwards on the number line to solve subtraction questions, in Shape, space and measure we will be learning the names and properties of 3D shapes.

We are also very excited to have 3 Police Officers and surprise friends visiting us this week. They will be telling us all about what it is like to work for the police and showing us their vehicles. This is taking place on Thursday afternoon so there will be no PE this week.

As we approach the Summer Term we want to say a big well done to all the children who are coming in on their own in the morning and doing all of their jobs!

Many thanks

Dear Parents/Carers

We have a number of different visitors coming in over the course of this half term to teach the children all about the different jobs people do to help us. This week we have Lindsay from the vets and Ben Henry the waste prevention and recycling officer coming into school to work with each class. We hope to visit the vets one afternoon soon, if you are able to help us walk to vets for pets please let your class teacher know.

During phonics we will be focusing on blending and segmenting words i.e. saying ‘c-a-t’ and hearing the word cat or saying cat and listening for the sounds in the word. In number we will be playing shape bingo and looking for 2D shapes in our environment, we will then stay playing bingo but with the focus on one less.

The Schools Dentist Service will be coming in on Friday this week, if you have not yet returned your form please make sure to send it in before then otherwise your child will not be seen. Also we are still waiting on a number of focus child forms to be returned to school, please return these or speak to your class teacher.

Many thanks

Dear Parents / Carers,

It was lovely to see the children looking so refreshed last week after the Christmas break. Lots of the children are now able to come in by themselves and independently sort out their belongings which is great.

We are back with a bang this week learning four new sounds. ‘L’, down the long leg, ‘ff’, huff and puff, ‘ll’, kick a ball at a wall and ‘ss’ Snakes like to hiss and kiss. The final sound clusters are new to St Martins now we are trialing the ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics scheme so won’t be on your sound mats.

We will be revisiting addition by learning a new game using ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story as a starting point and learning to write simple number sentences.

We will also be learning how to use salt dough and pitched instruments including bells, a steel drum and boomwhackers!

For this term we will only have PE on a Thursday. Please send your children with appropriate winter kit including a hoodie and joggers.

Many thanks

Dear Parents / Carers,

What a busy week! We have had so much fun. Thank you all for your donations of party food. The children had a great time but are very tired and looking forward to a lovely Christmas break.

On Monday the children have a normal day and must remember their book bags so we can send home an extra book for the holidays. We have very limited stocks of books at the moment and are waiting for new ones to arrive in January. Please check if you have any at home that can be returned as they are an expensive resource.

On Tuesday the children finish school at 1pm. Please send a little snack for break time and no lunch. The children can also come to school in a Christmas jumper / mufti for a 50p donation to LEPRA.

We hope you all have a fantastic Christmas holiday and look forward to seeing you in the new year.
